Put a floor under the market. See what it costs first.

Livestock Risk Protection pays when the market at your end date comes in below the price you insured. Pick your cattle or hogs, a coverage length and a coverage price, and this page runs the same math we would, from RMA's published rates.

Free, no signup. When you're ready, send it to us and we'll write it at that day's price.

Your livestock

Pick the end date closest to when they'll sell. You need to own them until within 60 days of it.

Beginning and veteran producers get extra premium subsidy. Ask us if you're not sure you qualify.

Tap a row to pick that coverage price. Floor after premium is the coverage price minus what you pay per cwt. It's an index level, not a guaranteed cash price: what your animals actually bring still depends on basis and how they sell.

Estimates use RMA's published LRP coverage prices and rates for the effective date shown above and are for planning only. They are not a quote, an offer of coverage or a guarantee of payment. Coverage prices and rates change daily, coverage is subject to availability, and premium subsidy depends on eligibility, including conservation compliance. Coverage is governed by the policy and its Specific Coverage Endorsement.

How it works

Four numbers decide what LRP costs and pays

Coverage price

The floor you buy, from 75% to 100% of RMA's expected ending value, where offered. Higher floors cost more per cwt.

Rate

RMA sets a premium rate for every coverage price and length. It moves with the futures market, so it changes daily.

Subsidy

USDA pays 35% to 55% of the premium depending on coverage level, plus more for beginning and veteran producers.

Actual ending value

The index price RMA publishes at your end date. If it's below your coverage price, you're paid the difference on every insured cwt.

Hog prices are on a lean basis. For swine we convert your live sale weight using RMA's 0.74 lean conversion factor.

LRP prices are set each afternoon after the futures close and can only be bought until 8:25 a.m. Central the next morning (Friday's prices stay open until Saturday morning), so a firm quote happens on the day you're ready to buy. Tell us what you have and we'll be ready. Interested in Livestock Gross Margin instead? Use the same form.
